EachStep Blackley to receive thousands of pounds after fundraising sky dive
EachStep Blackley, our specialist dementia care home in North Manchester, will be receiving thousands of pounds after two daredevils plunged 11,500ft from the sky to help raise money for a new special cinema room in the home.
Leahanne Sharkey, a Support Worker at EachStep Blackley, and Liam Stephens, a close family friend to a former resident, took part in the sky dive at Black Knights Parachute Centre in Lancaster, and raised £1,300.
The cinema room will allow the people we support at the home to watch films and enjoy television shows with their families. This will add to the special facilities at EachStep, which also has a sensory room, therapy rooms, a coffee shop and library.
The jump was just one of a number of fundraising events held by the home, with a race night to be hosted at the Irish World Heritage Centre in Manchester on 11th November. Local businesses have donated items to be auctioned at this event, with Manchester United Football Club donating a signed ball, and local boxer Anthony Crolla donating signed gloves.
Leahanne said: “We need to raise £8,000 to be able to buy a cinema room for the home, so we decided to take on this challenge to play our part in reaching that target. It was a nerve-wracking experience for the both of us, but the adrenaline rush we got was just amazing. It’s been brilliant to have raised so much money.”
Michelle Phillips, EachStep Blackley Manager, says: “We can’t wait for the people we support to get into the cinema room and have an amazing time watching films with their families. Leahanne and Liam are so passionate about EachStep Blackley, and we couldn’t believe the support they showed us. We’d like to thank them and everyone who fundraised for their sky dive.”
Adding: “A cinema room in our home would give the people we support so much enjoyment. Leahanne and Liam have raised so much and we’re really grateful for their efforts.”
