Tees Alive Christmas Show is Sell-Out Success

A Billingham day service that supports adults with learning disabilities, hosted a nineties themed Christmas production which was a huge hit with the local community.

On Thursday 15th December, people supported and staff members at Tees Alive performed their new production, That 90s Show, to a full house at the Billingham Forum. The whole group devised, produced and performed the sell-out show.

Tees Alive offers adults with learning disabilities an innovative programme of leisure, education and vocational opportunities including drama and theatre activities.

The action-packed production saw 90s classics such as SMTV Live, Antiques Roadshow and Supermarket Sweep brought to life, as well as hilarious sketches from nineties cartoons, soaps and political events. The audience also dressed up for the occasion, wearing their best 90s outfits.

All 27 members of the drama group were involved in every step of creating the hit show. They researched 90s TV shows, popular music and fashion from the decade, inspiring them to create the scenes and design the set, props and costumes.

Tees Alive were recent winners at the 2016 National Care Awards, nationally recognising their excellence in person-centred care and commitment to enhancing life skills and opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

Stuart Donnelly, Service Leader for Tees Alive, said: “We had such a great evening. I’m so proud of the people we support for all their hard work and dedication. They have been busy rehearsing and preparing the set, props and costumes for six months.

Stuart continues: “It was brilliant to see their hard work come to life on stage and they gave a fantastic performance. We were thrilled to have a sell-out show and the audience really enjoyed it! It was an amazing evening that we will remember for a very long time.”
