Gordon House and St Michaels Take On 5k Challenge
The people we support at Gordon House Care Home and St Michaels in Liverpool, along with their carers and relatives, are taking part in a fantastic fundraising challenge – the Liverpool Spring 5k Race – on Saturday 6th May.
Thirteen people from the services, which support people with mental health concerns, will join hundreds of other runners from across the city for the annual event, set in the city’s picturesque Sefton Park.
This will be the first charity race for the determined fundraising team. Preparing for the event has been a fantastic opportunity for everyone to improve their health and wellbeing and get to know each other – and all for a great cause as the money raised will help transform St Michaels’ garden and fund a wider range of activities.
Danny Cullen who lives at Gordon House, recently took part in the group’s training day. He said, “I’ve really enjoyed meeting everyone today, it’s been great to get out in the fresh air for some exercise. I’m really proud to be raising money for Gordon House and St Michaels and I can’t wait to get involved in more activities.”
Assistant Manager of Gordon House, Elsa Anderson, who came up with the idea for the challenge said: “As a care service, we want to offer the people we support as many new, inclusive and life enhancing experiences as possible. And what better way to do this than by getting fit and raising money.”
Elsa continues: “I’d like to thank everyone who is taking part. We’re really looking forward to the big day and we can’t wait to see our friends and families cheering us on as we approach the finish line!”
