Unfair To Care wins 3rd Sector Care Award
Community Integrated Care is proud to announce our charity’s ground-breaking Unfair To Care report has been awarded a prestigious accolade at this year’s Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards.
Organised by leading care publication, Care Management Matters, and developed in conjunction with the National Care Forum, the 3rd Sector Care Awards recognise the hard work, dedication, innovation and excellence of everyone working in the not-for-profit sector, making a positive difference to people’s lives.
At the awards ceremony in Birmingham on Friday 15th March, our charity was thrilled to be named winners of the Campaigning for Change Award for our 2022-23 Unfair To Care report, the second in our Unfair To Care campaign series.
Launched in December 2022, the report delved into the roots of the social care workforce crisis and the ongoing lack of fair pay for our frontline care workers. It demonstrated that social care workers are undervalued by more than £8,000 compared to their exact equivalents in the NHS and how at the time, it would take more than 23 years, a whole generation, to arrive at equal pay.
Our charity’s win at the 3rd Sector Care Awards comes just days after we proudly launched ‘Who Cares Wins – Unfair To Care 2024′ in Parliament, the third edition of our charity’s Unfair To Care series.
‘Who Cares Wins – Unfair To Care 2024’ builds on our previous research and reveals a once-in-a-generation opportunity to end the workforce challenges in social care, with exclusive public and MP polling finding consensus that the social care pay gap must be addressed. Highlighting the importance of a 2.6m strong ‘social care vote’, it indicates that the challenges of social care may influence the course of the 2024 election. Teresa Exelby, Chief People and Corporate Services Officer at Community Integrated Care, says: “We are incredibly proud to see Unfair To Care recognised at the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards. It’s a fantastic achievement for our charity and for the sector, as we continue to raise the profile of social care and drive fairer reward and recognition for our brilliant, hard-working colleagues.”
“To have been awarded this accolade just days after launching Unfair to Care 2024 is hugely encouraging, reinforcing the support and admiration for our life-changing workforce. We aspire for Unfair To Care 2024 to captivate the general public and policymakers alike, igniting momentum towards the crucial systemic changes we so urgently seek.”
“We’d like to express a huge thank you to everyone that has played a role in sharing and supporting Unfair To Care, especially our amazing colleagues and the people we support, who have bravely shared their experiences and provided invaluable insights into what it is like to live and work in the sector. Their contributions have been crucial in demonstrating the importance of our campaign and the incredible value of social care, and we couldn’t have done this without them.”
