A VIP British Cycling Experience
People supported by our charity had a day to remember after receiving a VIP invitation from British Cycling. The group was treated to an exclusive experience, watching the final training session of ParalympicsGB athletes before they head to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Gathered at the iconic Manchester Velodrome to witness the top British cyclists in their final stages of preparation, the event offered a rare glimpse into the high-stakes world of Paralympic sports, providing a unique and thrilling opportunity for 8 individuals to see their sporting heroes up close.
This special honour was extended to our charity as a recognition of outstanding work, both locally in Manchester and across the UK. Community Integrated Care has been praised for our life-changing projects that empower individuals with learning disabilities and autism, particularly through the use of sport.
Tony, a Stockport resident supported by our charity, expressed his excitement about the event, sharing, “I never dreamt I would be this close to the athletes. It was brilliant to watch the cycling and see all the Paralympic stars. Being part of these programmes has really changed my life. I can’t wait to cheer them on later this month.”
The opportunity meant a lot to both participants and staff. Samantha Brennan, one of our Managing Directors, remarked, “For British Cycling to both recognise and reward the work of our charity in sport, and of the people we support from Manchester with this incredible experience is truly incredible.
Everyone has been excitedly anticipating seeing the athletes in action, but nothing compares to when you experience cycling live from the Velodrome – a special experience for the people we support to make memories that last a lifetime.
We’re so thankful to the British Cycling team and give our best wishes to the squad heading out to Paris.”
The event was a celebration of both sport and the positive social impact of Community Integrated Care, highlighting the importance of inclusion and opportunity for all.
