Plans for Care Home Expansion

Community Integrated Care is proud to announce exciting new plans to expand Thorney Croft Care Home and Charnwood Lodge Care Home this Spring.

Working alongside Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership, the renovations will see eight new residential rooms opened at each of the homes.

Leanne Keegan, Head of Projects and Development for Community Integrated Care, said: “Community Integrated Care has a long and proud history of supporting people in the heart of the Stranraer and Dumfries communities, and this exciting project represents a major development and investment for our charity, enabling us to provide excellent care and support to more people for years to come.”

To make the project possible, Community Integrated Care have taken the decision to convert the floor space currently occupied by the Care Homes’ Day Centre into additional rooms. The Day Centre, which offer members the opportunity to take part in activities, entertainment and socialise, will continue, but from alternative location in each community and still by the same specialist team.

Leanne said: “We remain fully committed to delivering a high-quality day care service and are actively working in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership to find a suitable alternative location for this service. We’ll be working alongside the people we support, their loved ones and our colleagues to ensure that the change is a positive one for everyone involved.”

June Watters is the Wigtownshire locality manager for Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership, and she said: “The creation of new permanent, additional residential rooms is a response to a clear need from a community with an ageing population.

“The move also helps cement the future of the Home as a viable, sustainable facility serving the community.

“But of course, this is all about balancing the needs of that community, and we are very keen to ensure we see that the important work in the area of day services continues. It is this work which can make the difference between somebody being in a position to live independently or perhaps otherwise require the residential accommodation that the service provides.”

She added: “As much work as was possible has been carried out ahead of this announcement to prepare for these changes.

“We will therefore be working closely with the community and key organisations in Wigtownshire to look at the best ways of ensuring the good work carried out at Thorney Croft around day services is continued in a manner that best serves the needs of the community.”
