Double win at GB Care Awards Yorkshire
Community Integrated Care was proud to be awarded two prestigious accolades at the Great British Care Awards Yorkshire on Friday 8th November, celebrating our charity’s Learning Disability Super League and On The Same Team campaign.
Created in partnership with Rugby Football League, Community Integrated Care’s Learning Disability Super League (LDSL) has brought rugby league to all, by providing life-changing opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autism to play for their favourite clubs. Offering people with support needs the opportunity to play in front of thousands, the LDSL shows sport is for everyone. The programme was recognised as a sector-leading innovation, winning the Care Innovator Award.
Meanwhile our On The Same Team campaign, which tackles bullying and discrimination through delivering free anti-bullying education resources for young people, scored the Co-production Award. This special award recognises initiatives that excel in collaborative approaches between people who draw on services, caregivers, and professionals to enhance the quality and effectiveness of social care services.
Speaking of this success, Community Integrated Care’s Director of Partnerships and Communities, John Hughes, said, “We’re incredibly proud to see our Learning Disability Super League and On The Same Team awarded these two brilliant accolades. Now in its fifth year, the LDSL has had a huge impact on thousands of people across the social care sector and beyond. Not only does it provide people with learning disabilities the opportunity to participate in the fantastic game of rugby league – it brings communities together, creates lifelong memories and changes lives.”
“This award is a testament to the incredible efforts of everyone who has contributed their time and efforts over the past few years to delivering the programme and championing inclusion through the sport. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to our partners Rugby Football League and all of the clubs, coaches and volunteers for their continued support, without which this life-changing programme wouldn’t be possible. Rugby League have also played a vital role in driving forward On The Same team, striving to change society for the better, for generations to come.”
The awards ceremony forms part of the Great British Care Award’s regional events, celebrating excellence across the sector. The ceremonies continue to take place throughout this month across other regions, with Community Integrated Care celebrating 22 Great British Care Awards.
Winners from the regional events will go through to a National Finals taking place in March next year.
