People we support shine on stage!

On Friday 15^th and Saturday 16^th November, dreams came true as people supported by Community Integrated Care showcased their talents in an incredible Peter Pan theatre performance at Aberdeen Arts Centre!

Started by colleagues and people supported by Inspire back in 2019, prior to the organisation’s merger with Community Integrated Care, this year’s pantomime marked the fourth of its kind – co-created by over 50 people supported by our charity, colleagues, family and friends, from start to finish.

From acting in leading roles, to props and set design, the pantomimes have created life-changing opportunities for people supported – empowering participants to build new skills, express themselves creatively, and come together under the common goal of putting on a showstopping theatre performance.

Brydon, a person we support in Aberdeenshire, had the honour of playing the titular role this year. He said: “In last year’s pantomime, I got involved behind the scenes, working alongside the cast and acting as the curtain puller for the show. Now, just one year on, I was chosen to perform as Peter Pan – I was over the moon to battle Captain Hook on-stage and put on a show for everyone who attended! Going to rehearsals was the highlight of the week. The whole production has been so much fun!”

Sara Murphy, Managing Director for Scotland, said: “I’m so proud of all our people who got involved in this year’s pantomime. I know that everybody has been working very hard behind the scenes to put the show together, and their efforts have definitely paid off!”

“Lots of people we support who were involved enjoyed the theatre but, unfortunately in the past, they never had the opportunity to be part of a production themselves. This initiative has changed that and created an amazing community where the people we support can make new friends, practice their creative skills, and work towards personal goals – and all the proceeds will go towards our charity and funding the next pantomime, too. Over 400 people attended across the two performances, so I’d like to wish a huge well done to the whole team!”
