We receive recognition from Sir David Attenborough
Community Integrated Care was proud to receive a handwritten letter from Sir David Attenborough, after winning a prestigious award for engaging thousands of people who access social care, through accessible resources inspired by his acclaimed ‘Wild Isles’ documentary series.
In 2024, Community Integrated Care teamed up with the National Trust, WWF, and the RSPB to create free and accessible resources to help people who draw on social care enjoy the benefits of nature, playing their part in environmental action. The resources supported the social impact aims of Sir David Attenborough’s television series, which celebrated the beautiful wildlife in the UK and highlighted the role that every person can play in protecting our fragile environment.
Developing first-of-their-kind guidance on creating accessible, low-cost sensory gardens– as well as a reminiscence programme for people living with dementia, delivered by our partners at Age Exchange, this work had a unique impact.
Community Integrated Care was delighted to receive a special handwritten note directly from Sir David Attenborough after informing him that the project had collected the Care Innovator Award at the Great British Care Awards, Scotland and North East. It said, “I am so glad that my programme has been of help to your charity in achieving its ambitions.”
John Hughes, Director of Partnerships and Communities, said, “Our Save Our Wild Isles collaboration with RSPB, National Trust and WWF is continuing to change lives, with sensory gardens, walking programmes and environmental action programmes continuing to sustain and grow because of this unique collaboration.
When we developed our projects and resources, we were deeply inspired by the message of Wild Isles and the important presence that Sir David Attenborough has held in our nation. We were determined to seize the opportunity of this collaboration to create a lasting impact in social care and for our environment. The letter from Sir David and the Great British Care Awards recognition can be real sources of pride to every person in our charity who played their part in this incredible campaign.”
