Care manager raises £3k in sponsored shave
A Community Integrated Care care home manager from Castle Douglas has recently raised over £3,000 for the charity, as part of the #CareWithHair challenge.
Kelly Henderson, who manages Community Integrated Care’s Carlingwark House Care Home in Castle Douglas, braved the shave on Monday 1st June, to say thanks to her colleagues and the people she supports at the home for the admirable way they have handled the Coronavirus crisis.
The #CareWithHair challenge encourages people to share their DIY hair styling experiences on social media and donate the money they would have spent on professional hair treatments at www.carewithhair.co.uk. All money raised will help support the wellbeing of social care workers and the people they support through the unprecedented challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Funds raised from the #CareWithHair campaign will fund a range of vital resources to help the 4,000 people in the charity’s care cope with the many challenges of self-isolation, including activity kits, calming sensory equipment and technology to stay in touch with loved ones.
Kelly Henderson said, “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone in Castle Douglas community who has donated to this fundraiser, the support we’ve had is phenomenal.”
She continued, “Not only have I braved the shave, my sister (and colleague) Lisa, my parents and local DJ, Raymond also took part! My colleague James even had his legs and chest waxed! I’m so proud of absolutely everyone who take part and how we’ve managed to raise such an amazing amount.”
“The donations are already making a huge difference. We’ve been able to purchase activity packs, reminisce items and pampering products for the people we support. It’s making life in lockdown a little bit easier for our residents and my dedicated colleagues who have all worked so hard throughout this crisis.”
John Hughes, Director of Partnerships and Communities at Community Integrated Care said, “I’m in awe of Kelly’s bravery in completing this challenge, raising money for items that will make such a big difference to everyone in the home. She really is such an inspiration, who cares so much for the people she supports at Carlingwark House. A huge thanks to thank Kelly’s friends, family and everyone at the care home who were involved in the challenge and to all of those who donated to this incredible cause.”
He continued, “Lockdown is turning all of us into DIY barbers and hairdressers, so whether you’re cropping with clippers, fixing your fringe or daring to dye, I’d encourage anyone to get involved. Your support will change lives and make an invaluable contribution to our charity during these challenging times.”
