CIC attends Dignity in Care Forum

Staff working for Community Integrated Care took part in the Cumbria Dignity in Care Forum, held at Penrith Rugby Club on 5th December, to share and learn about examples of good dignity in practice with other care sector organisations.

The event brought together Dignity Champions from across the region, including care providers, commissioners, NHS groups and universities, with guest speakers giving informative lectures on best practice in Dignity in Care.

The Dignity in Care campaign, launched by the Department of Health in 2006, aims to put dignity and respect at the heart of all care services. Dignity Champions are part of a nationwide movement, working individually and collectively to ensure that people have a good experience of care when they need it.

Community Integrated Care has its own Dignity Forum groups in each region that we work in, made up of people we support and our Dignity Champions. Our Cumbria group was recently shortlisted in the Dignity in Care category of the Great North West Care Awards, and was commended by for this success at the Cumbria Dignity in Care Forum event.

Jeremy Pearson, Home Manager at Allanby House attended the event, he explains, “CIC’s dedication to delivering high-quality services that respect people’s dignity was recognised at the event, particularly when Forum members were tasked with suggesting ideas for creating a Dignity Charter; CIC has already developed its own charter in Cumbria and we received excellent feedback on our contribution to this discussion.”

He adds, “As a result of our contribution, I have been asked to write an article about our approach to dignity, which will feature in the next edition of the Dignity in Care Cumbria newsletter.”

Jill Lucock, Assistant Director at Community Integrated Care, says, “We are all very proud of the enthusiasm shown by all of our Dignity Champions. It is great to see them sharing best practice with other organisations and receiving the recognition that they so richly deserve for their hard work.”
