Burns Lunch festivities at Cornwall Park
Residents and staff from Cornwall Park Care Home, Newton Stewart, which supports older people, celebrated the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns in style with a traditional Burns Supper on 5th February.
The festivities included a banquet of traditional Scottish delicacies including haggis, neeps (turnips), tatties (potatoes), oatcakes and cheese, which was all washed down with a ‘wee dram’!
As is customary at Burns celebrations, the haggis was piped in and addressed by local Robert Burns enthusiast and volunteer at Cornwall Park, John Kirkpatrick. Residents were entertained by local school children who recited some of Burns’ most famous poems, as well as bagpipe music provided by Janet Montgomery, local musician.
Barbara Matthews, Home Manager at Cornwall Park, said: “At Cornwall Park we are keen to ensure that the people we support enjoy the things that are important to them, which is why we wanted to mark this important festivity with a great celebration. Our lunch was a tremendous success, giving residents a wonderful afternoon that they were delighted with.”
