Meadow Green Officially Launched

Wednesday 2^nd April saw the opening ceremony for Meadow Green – a brand new, state-of-the-art extra care service in Heckmondwike, Kirklees, which included a speech from Community Integrated Care’s Chief Executive Neil Matthewman.

Meadow Green is the second of the three extra care housing schemes being built by Kirklees Council in partnership with Regenter Excellent Homes for Life (REHL), with care and support at the service provided by Community Integrated Care.

The scheme was officially opened by The Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Martyn Bolt. The event was attended by over 100 people, including tenants of Meadow Green, leaders from Kirklees Council and partners involved in the project.

Meadow Green is a modern 53 apartment complex, which includes Meadow Green Lodge, a separate scheme of ten flats that will exclusively deliver specialist support to people with dementia. It has a number of communal facilities that all tenants are able to take advantage of, including a lounge, activity room, therapy suite, hairdressing salon, landscaped garden and a restaurant.

Each of the Extra Care Housing Schemes is designed to be a community hub, providing services for members of the local community, as well as those living in the scheme. This helps to reduce social isolation, enables people to remain part of the local community and brings new resources into the local area.

Cllr Molly Walton, Kirklees Council, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, says: “Meadow Green is a modern, spacious housing facility with care and support available. It’s all about providing independent living for people in a safe environment for as long as possible, with high quality care close at hand should they need it. The environment where people live makes a tremendous difference to their quality of life and wellbeing, as well as offering reassurance to their families, friends and carers.”
