Community Integrated Care up for six GB Care Home Awards!

Community Integrated Care is leading the way at the Great British Care Home Awards National Finals tonight, with an amazing six nominees representing our charity at this prestigious event.

The Great British Care Awards are a celebration of excellence across the care sector, paying tribute to individuals and organisations who deliver excellent services and inspirational care.

Meet our nominees…

Care Employer Award – Community Integrated Care

Our charity has been shortlisted for the Care Employer Award, recognising the major investment that we have made into our services and employees this year. In 2013, we announced a major new five year strategy for our charity, which has the aim of our organisation becoming The UK’s Leading Health and Social Care charity. This has been backed up by an organisational development programme called ‘The Big Change’, which aims to invest in and improve all areas of our charity to enhance the service we deliver to the people we support and employees. Michelle Phillips – Care Home Manager Award

Great British Care Award Winners

Michelle Phillips is the manager of EachStep Blackley, a pioneering integrated dementia care service in North Manchester – which offers home care, day care, respite care and residential & nursing care. By offering this complete range of services, EachStep can support people from diagnosis until the end of their life.

Michelle has worked tirelessly to develop this genuinely specialist service – from helping to create a dementia friendly living environment, to ensuring that the people it supports are given enabling support from highly trained staff. She truly leads by example, inspiring her dedicated team.

Adrienne Ratcliffe – Dignity in Care Award

Adrienne Ratcliffe, Registered Nurse at St Luke’s Care Home in Palacefields, Runcorn, is a true Dignity Champion. This year she has supported a major project to make St Luke’s a centre of excellence for dementia care – working alongside colleagues from Halton CCG, assisting the home to achieve the NHS Gold Standard Framework for End of Life Care Award and offering exceptional mentoring to her colleagues.

Judges at the Great North West Care Awards commended Adrienne’s ‘successful role as an ambassador for dignity’ and her ‘passion for raising standards of person-centred care’.

Christine Cundall – Care Home Worker Award

Christine had never worked in dementia care until she joined EachStep Blackley, but after caring for her mother, who lived with the condition, she realised how important a career in care could be. The EachStep team saw the potential in Christine – recognising that she had strong values, a caring nature and great creativity – and over the past year, she has consistently proved that she was the right person for the job.

Judges at the Great North West Care Awards praised Christine for her ‘commitment to seeing beyond the issues caused dementia, by always treating the people she supports as individuals’.

Joy Elliot – Nutrition and Hydration Award

Joy Elliot is the Head Chef at Carlingwark House – a care home in Dumfries and Galloway that supports older people. Joy is passionate about producing nutritious and delicious fresh food for all residents.

But beyond being a highly talented chef, Joy understands that meal times should be a person-centred experience. She believes that Chef’s shouldn’t just be hidden away in the kitchen; Joy takes the time to get to know each and every one of Carlingwark’s residents, ensuring that the food she makes satisfies their various tastes and is served in the best way for them.

Charlotte Grange Care Home – Putting People First Award

The Charlotte Grange team have worked hard to deliver a person-centred approach to end-of-life care. They were endorsed in their award entry by their local Macmillian Nurse and have been commended for their compassionate approach by family members.

Their manager, Margaret Spence, told the Hartlepool Mail: “It’s about how we make families feel when they are going through a harrowing time and thinking about what’s most important for you and your family.”
