Journal of Dementia Care features EachStep
The Journal of the Dementia Care, one of the care sectors most respected publications, has featured Community Integrated Care’s flagship dementia care service EachStep Blackley, as the UK’s first dementia care service to have its own Costa.
In the piece, Community Integrated Care’s Director of Care Services & Outcomes Sue McLean discusses how the Costa ‘Proud to Serve’ franchise agreement has helped realise the service’s bold ambition to bring together people supported at EachStep, and their local community.
“We’d planned for EachStep Blackley to include a community café, as well as other communal facilities, which would equally benefit the people we support and open the service up to the local community. We’d joked in our planning meetings that the café would be like our own Costa, but the more we talked about it, the idea of having this familiar brand in our service really began to make sense.”
Sue also discusses how the Costa franchise has become a beacon to the community, and has helped transform perceptions of dementia: “When we first announced EachStep, some local people were anxious, having extreme or distorted perceptions of what dementia is and how it might affect them personally.
“We now see these same people coming by for a coffee and in fact many are now powerful advocates for the service.”
