Our colleague makes Independent Happy List!
We’re incredibly proud to share that one of our amazing Support Workers, David Young, has been included on the Independent’s Happy List for 2021.
The Independent’s Happy List celebrates ‘50 inspirational people driving positive change in Britain’ sharing stories of individuals whose kindness, courage and selflessness make them some of the country’s most outstanding people.
David, a Support worker based in our North View service in Scotland, made it onto the list for his selfless acts during the pandemic.
Concerned that he might risk bringing Covid home to his 84-year-old mother and 59-year-old wife, who were both shielding, David moved out of the family home and into the greenhouse in the garden, so that he could continue to provide care to the people we support. He went weeks without any face-to-face interaction with his family, spending just under four months in the greenhouse in total.
Allison Cochrane, Managing Director for Scotland, said:
“Throughout the pandemic, David has shown a tremendous amount of commitment and selflessness. It is brilliant to see his compassion recognised on the Independent Happy List and it is a very well-deserved achievement – we are all so proud of him!”
David Young, Support Worker at Community Integrated Care, said:
“During the pandemic, I just did what I felt I needed to do in order to minimise the risk to my family whilst also being able to continue caring for the people we support. It is an honour to be included and recognised on the independent’s Happy List for 2021, amongst so many inspirational people from across the nation.”
