Green Heys Welcomes Mayor!

Liverpool-based Green Heys Care Home last week welcomed the Mayor of Sefton, Kevin Cluskey to a Poppy Picnic, a special event to mark the 100^th anniversary of the start of World War One.

The event, which was supported by the British Legion, attracted many of the local community, who braved the rain to help the care home celebrate the centenary. Green Heys is home to 47 older people with dementia and other age-related needs.

Cllr Kevin Cluskey was invited to join in the celebration by the team at Green Heys, for a day that was poignant for many residents, particularly those who had previously represented their country in the military.

The local British Legion fundraising group lent their support by donating poppies to sell at the celebration. Guests were encouraged to use the poppies to decorate the visiting Lambanana, which was kindly donated by Aintree University Hospital!

Entertainment was provided on the day by local dance group Merseyside Dance Initiative, who led the group in songs and dances from the wartime era, with both staff residents getting involved.
