Celebrating World Recycling Day

For World Recycling Day we’re celebrating a brilliant project, delivered by a person we support, for people we support! Community Integrated Care’s Recycling Champion, John Paul (JP) Derbyshire, will be delivering 75 accessible environmental education sessions to the people we support and our colleagues across the Liverpool City Region.

Taking on the role of gameshow host, JP’s virtual sessions will inspire our people to recycle in an engaging and inclusive way, through interactive activities inspired by popular gameshows such as ‘Countdown’ and ‘Blockbusters’.

The sessions kicked off earlier this month with the first being presented to our Speke Road service in Liverpool and will form part of an exciting recycling programme funded by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA) and the UK’s leading waste management company, Veolia.

The aim of the initiative is to improve knowledge and awareness of recycling amongst the people we support and our colleagues, to positively influence behaviours right across our charity – including each of our 75 services in the region filling an extra quarter of a recycling bin per week!

Thanks to the funding from MRWA and Veolia, Community Integrated Care has been able to recruit and provide two long-term paid employment opportunities for people supported by our charity to make these goals a reality! In addition to our Recycling Champion, JP, Oliver Thomason from Warrington has also been employed to work on reducing food waste across our charity.

John Paul, said: “I am really proud to be our charity’s Recycling Champion and I’m so excited to be sharing everything I have learnt about recycling with people from our charity. The sessions are designed to be fun and easy for everyone to get involved with, and the first one was a great success. I can’t wait to see people putting what I’ve taught them into practice, and to see more people across our charity improving their recycling habits!”
