TV Star Visits EachStep on Comedy Marathon
One of Manchester’s biggest stars of Comedy and TV will be holding a very special gig at EachStep Blackley this Saturday, as part of an epic stand-up comedy marathon to raise money for Comic Relief.
Smug Roberts, famed for his roles in Mrs Brown’s Boys and Phoenix Nights will be taking to the stage at EachStep on Saturday evening at 6pm – as he performs an astonishing 20 gigs in 20 hours to celebrate 20 years in the industry, and raise £2,000 for Comic Relief along the way!
This stage of his whistlestop tour will be particularly poignant for Smug, real name Andy Wilkinson, whose mother was a resident at the award-winning specialist dementia service for several years until her recent passing. Smug has remained a passionate supporter of the care home to this day, choosing to perform there this weekend as a token of his thanks for the care his mother received.
Michelle Phillips, Home Manager at EachStep Blackley, says: “Andy has always been so supportive of our work at EachStep, and we’re delighted that he has thought of us as he takes on this truly impressive and thoughtful challenge!”
“At EachStep, we’re always looking for new ways to welcome the community to our service and find interesting and novel activities for the people we support – so we’re incredibly excited for this special event and are fully behind Smug’s fundraising drive!”
On announcing his gig at the service, Smug Roberts said: “I chose EachStep as a way of thanking the wonderful staff for the top class care and quality of life they gave my Mum.
Mum had a fantastic sense of humour as do all the folk at EachStep, and after every visit I came away smiling and reassured that she was in the best place possible – so I’m really looking forward to Saturday and having more fun and lots of laughs!”
