Success at Learning Disability Awards!

The 2^nd National Learning Disability Awards, held in Birmingham’s ICC in May brought another successful night for Community Integrated Care – shortlisted for an incredible seven awards, and picking up the specially-awarded Public Sector Award.

The National Learning Disability Awards celebrate excellence across the sector and pay tribute to the people who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field. Categories represented all areas of the sector, from frontline staff such as Support Workers and Managers, to people who have made an impact in other ways – through training, sport and autism practice.

Support Worker Malcolm Pugh took home the prestigious Public Sector Award, a special award given to a person who has dedicated their career to public service. Malcolm, a retired police man supports five complex but independent people in Community Integrated Care’s Stockton Outreach Service in Middlesbrough.

Judges described him as ‘an outstanding man who has a natural ability to make a huge difference, and understands each individual. An absolute star!’

Community Integrated Care was shortlisted in six further categories, including the ‘Employer of people with a disability award’, where we were represented by our incredible Peer Reviewers. Alongside them were Paula Smith and Adam Wells, who were nominated for the ‘Registered Manager Award’ and ‘Supporting Older People with a Learning Disability Award’ respectively.

Community Integrated Care’s Scottish services were also shortlisted, with managers David Traynor and Heather Birnie nominated for the ‘Great Autism Practise Award’ and the ‘Making a Difference Award’.

Last but most certainly not least, Community Integrated Care’s North East Day Service for adults with learning disabilities Tees Alive was a finalist for the ‘Sporting Chance Award’, in honour of its incredible partnership with Middlesbrough FC.
