Supporting new Skills for Care report

Community Integrated Care was proud to support our partners at Skills for Care this week, highlighting the findings of their new State of the Sector report on ITV News. The piece aired yesterday on Tuesday 11^th October.

Reporting on the recruitment crisis currently faced by the UK social care sector, colleagues from our Martindale service in Hounslow, Middlesex, demonstrated first-hand why they love their role in social care, but the many challenges it can bring.

Skills for Care’s report, ‘The State of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce in England 2022’, has found that vacancy rates have dramatically increased in adult social care in the last year – by 52% – showing that the number of filled posts in social care is down for first time on record.

Skills for Care, the workforce body for adult social care, state that this points to a recruitment and retention challenge in the UK rather than a decrease in demand for care staff.

Community Integrated Care’s Regional Manager, Simon Ball, and Support Worker at Martindale, Jasvir Kaur, featured in the programme. Simon explained the complexity of pay rates in the sector, and how social care is competing against the likes of supermarkets, that can afford to pay colleagues more – losing people as a result of being unable to match these increasing pay rates.
