Warrington Wolves stars add Christmas sparkle to What To Do

Warrington Wolves stars Ben Currie and Joe Bullock tackled a festive quiz and belted out Christmas songs during a special experience in the community, for people supported by social care charity, Community Integrated Care.

Alongside the Wolves’ first team squad, they attended a live session of our charity’s innovative ‘What To Do’ initiative, which offers daily activity sessions free for people who access care and support.

The event took place at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and finished with ‘front rower’ Bullock serenading both the packed room and viewers of ITV Granada, who were on hand to film the session.

It was also screened live on www.What-To-Do.co.uk, allowing those not able to attend in person the opportunity to take part.

Community Integrated Care’s Partnerships and Communities Manager, Craig Thomason, said that having the Wolves players present had a huge impact.

He explained, “This is so important for the people that we support. Sadly, people with learning disabilities, autism and age-related concerns are far more likely to face issues such as isolation, loneliness, and lack of access to meaningful opportunities – and this was amplified throughout the pandemic. We’re so happy to be back out in the community, enabling people supported to make those social connections, have fun, and get active.”

“Equally, we’re engaging people who couldn’t make the event in-person online, through our unique accessible activity website, What To Do. From Drama and Social Clubs to Dance, Sports and even a Saturday night disco, there’s something for everyone, every day. Partnering with a leading Super League club like Warrington helps us to create the absolute best experiences.”

Community Integrated Care Service Leader, Dawn Underwood, added, “It’s been amazing. It’s important that the players get involved because Warrington Wolves is the centre of the community in Warrington, and at Community Integrated Care we support many Wolves fans. It was really exciting for everyone, including our colleagues!”

Wolves star Currie said the players relished playing an active role in the session.

Currie said, “It’s good to get amongst it and involved with the Wolves Foundation and Community Integrated Care, who are doing exceptional work in our communities. We’re all here to have a great time and we really enjoyed ourselves. It was part of a busy day for us, we were out and about around the town collecting very kind donations of toys, clothes and food and dropping them off at the food bank. Some people are really struggling at this time of year, so it’s good to know we can help to make a difference.”
