Brook Street celebrates their first Christmas

Our Brook Street service in Clackmannanshire decked the halls and spread holiday cheer with an afternoon of festive fun for the community, in celebration of their first Christmas.

Having officially opened their doors in February this year after an exciting, but sometimes challenging, two years of development, Brook Street in Alva is a Supported Living service that enables eight people with learning disabilities to live independently in their own homes.

This Christmas marks a special milestone for the people living at Brook Street, as for many of them this is their first time living independently.

Community is integral to Brook Street and the building even showcases a piece of artwork on its walls to pay homage to the history and culture of the local area. Therefore, they were excited to invite members of the local community to join them in celebrating this special time of year.

Local authorities, nurses and families joined the evening’s festivities, which included a dazzling Christmas lights switch on, hot chocolates and carol singing.

Regional Manager, Clare Mcmurchie, said, “It was wonderful to see people from the local community come together, not only to celebrate the festive season but to also celebrate the achievements of the people supported at Brook Street, and the fantastic homes that they’ve made for themselves over the past 10 months. It was such a proud moment for us all.”

She continued, “We’re also incredibly proud of our team who have worked tirelessly over the past two years to get Brook Street up and running, despite the challenges we all encountered in the face of the pandemic. This celebration really highlighted their amazing efforts. We can’t wait to see the people support continue to develop their independence year on year and celebrate many Christmases to come, in their own homes.”

Liam Edmondson, a person supported at Brook Street said, “It was great to celebrate being in my new home for Christmas this year. It has been a year of change for me, something I didn’t think I would have been able to do a year ago. It’s great to feel independent. The team at Community Integrated Care have assisted me with the change and I like the support they give me, especially when I have struggled with change.”
