MP and Lord Mayor join Summer Celebration
Gilmorton Flats was treated to two special guests at their Annual Summer Celebration. Jonathan Ashworth, Labour MP for Leicester South and Lord Mayor, Cllr Dr Susan Barton both joined the celebrations at our Leicester service.
On 16th June, Gilmorton Flats held a fantastic summer party for colleagues, the people we support, family members and members of the community.
Jon and Susan were both welcomed to the supported living service by Service Leader Gill Edwards. Counseller Susan Barton was treated to a tour of the service, to get a fuller sense of the incredible service we provide at Gilmorton, giving the people we support choice, respect and dignity and the opportunity to live their lives how they wish.
Jonathan Ashworth, Leicester South MP, has been a great supporter of Community Integrated Care for many years backing our charity’s Unfair To Care campaign, supporting key issues regarding social care and attending events such as this.
Service Leader Gillian Edwards said, “We love hosting our annual celebration. The aim is always to create a party that promotes everyone living the best lives possible. It’s all about laughter, spending time outside in the sunshine and enjoying life to the fullest.”
Edd Terrey, Community Integrated Care’s Managing Director for South and Central, said, “We were pleased to welcome both the Lord Mayor Cllr Dr Susan Barton and MP for Leicester South Jonathan Ashworth to Gilmorton Flats’ annual summer celebration. Everyone was thrilled to receive a visit from our special guests, and it was a pleasure to welcome them into the service. This was a true celebration of best lives possible, and I was extremely proud of our colleagues for delivering such a spectacular event for their communities.”
Speaking of his visit, Jonathan Ashworth said, “It was fantastic to join the annual Garden Party at Community Integrated Care’s Gilmorton Flats and support the amazing work that the team do. There’s a fantastic community spirit, with everyone coming together to celebrate the people they support, living happy and fulfilling lives. The food, as always, was delicious, and it was to join everyone, enjoying the sunshine.”
