85th birthday party for Care Home volunteer

Pemberton Fold Care Home in Manchester has held a special celebration to mark the 85^th birthday of resident’s husband and tireless volunteer, Ted Platt.

A devoted husband to resident Joyce, Ted not only visits on a regular basis, but always lends his time to volunteer at the home by tending to the garden.

To celebrate his big day, the staff at Pemberton Fold threw a special surprise for Ted – a romantic dinner for two with Joyce. The home’s chef cooked up a two-course feast of a roast pork dinner with all the trimmings, and jelly and ice cream for dessert – Joyce’s favourite!

The kitchen also made a big birthday cake for Ted – which, true to his generous nature, he duly cut up himself and shared with the resident’s on Pemberton Fold’s Cherry Tree Unit.

Caroline Broughall, Service Manager at Pemberton Fold, says “Ted gives us so much of his time, so it was wonderful for us to be able to give something back to him and show our appreciation for everything he does.”

“It was a pleasure for us to be able help him celebrate his big day with Joyce, as well as doing something lovely for them as a couple.”
