A royal day out for Community Integrated Care

Colleagues and people supported by Community Integrated Care were thrilled to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla in the heart of Westminster on Saturday 6th May, thanks to VIP tickets rewarded to the charity from Skills for Care, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

Four of our charity’s biggest royal enthusiasts received royal treatment as they travelled down to London and were invited to view the procession from the exclusive Queen Victoria Memorial Grandstand, alongside members of the Armed Forces and NHS.

Joined by their Support Workers, the quartet had front row seats as their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla passed by Buckingham Palace, as well as the appearance of the royal family on the Buckingham Palace balcony and special Armed Forces parades throughout the day.

Poignantly, Susan Hill from Runcorn, who is affectionately known as ‘Princess Susan’ by her friends and support team for her love of the monarchy, was amongst attendees.

Having met the Princess of Wales in November last year, to share the success of our charity’s Inclusive Volunteering Programme with Rugby League World Cup 2021, the opportunity to watch King Charles’ coronation live from London, was a dream come true for Susan.

Susan said, “I was over the moon when I heard I’d received tickets to the Coronation, and so excited to be there in person. It was amazing to be in London and see King Charles and Queen Camilla crowned. The day felt like a dream. I am so grateful for everyone that made this experience possible.”

Rebeca Tiriteu, Support Worker at Community Integrated Care, also attended. She said, “This was a once in a lifetime experience for me, my colleagues and the people we support. We had an amazing day and it was so special to be in London, at the heart of the Coronation celebrations. Seeing the King and Queen pass by right in front of us, is a moment I will never forget!”

Edd Terrey, Managing Director at Community Integrated Care, said, “To experience such a historic event first-hand is a great privilege and a truly once in a lifetime opportunity for our colleagues and the people we support. Having the chance to join in with the celebrations in Westminster and soak in the excitement and the atmosphere was really special. The whole experience truly epitomises our charity’s core goals of supporting people to achieve their dreams and live the best lives possible.”

He continued, “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Skills for Care, the DCMS, and the DHSC for sourcing the tickets and enabling this incredible opportunity for the people we support. I have no doubt that they will remember and cherish the day for years to come.”
