Autism Accreditation success for Community Integrated Care

Two of Community Integrated Care’s Independent Living services have recently achieved reaccreditation with the National Autistic Society (NAS) – Merseyside based supported employment service Vocational Support and supported living home, Strothers Road in Gateshead.

The NAS’s Autism Accreditation programme is internationally recognised as a standard of excellence for autism services. It provides a framework for continuous self-examination and development, enabling services to continuously improve their provision for people with autism and Asperger syndrome.

Howard Rice, manager of Community Integrated Care Vocational Support says: “In January 2008 we became the first supported employment service in the UK to achieve Autism Accreditation. Gaining accreditation and reaccreditation demonstrates that we are committed to a programme of continuous improvement and quality service delivery. But more so, it has helped us to improve the quality of the service we provide to many of our clients, not just to people on the autistic spectrum.”

Strothers Road supports six people, including two people with needs on the autism spectrum. Home manager Mairi Turner says: “Achieving achievement has helped to reinforce the existing good practice in our home and makes a great statement about the standards we deliver. I am hugely proud of my team for all of their hard work and commitment in achieving this success.”
