Carer Takes To The Boxing Ring To Knockout Cancer

Laura Muratu, a carer at the Winchester apartments in Hampshire, will sacrifice her birthday celebrations to step inside the boxing ring to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Laura Muratu She will be taking part in a bout organised by Ultra White Collar Boxing, who are aiming to raise £5million for Cancer Research UK. The event will take place in Reading on Saturday 10th September, the day of her 29th birthday.

Laura has set a personal target of raising £1,000, and is hoping the wider community will get behind her ahead of the event. Her first sponsor was our charity, and the logo will will appear on her shirt and shorts during the fight.

Laura says: “I want to improve my fitness, and training for this event has helped me to accomplish that. Having struggled with my weight in the past, I’m also doing this to show people that anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

“Putting my body through this will be tough and the prospect of a punch in the face on my birthday is daunting, but I have to add that it’ll be totally worth it if I raise money for Cancer Research UK. I’d like to thank staff and colleagues of Community Integrated Care for their fantastic support.”

Tracey Bugg, Manager of Winchester Apartments, says: “Laura has a very positive outlook on life and is always keen to help others. She embraces challenges with enthusiasm and commitment, and her training for this event has been no different.

“We were delighted to be Laura’s first sponsors, and hope she manages to raise an amount that reflects her hard work and dedication.”
