Carlingwark House wins National Dementia Award

Carlingwark House, a Community Integrated Care home for older people in Dumfries and Galloway, has been recognised as one of Britain’s very best, after collecting a top accolade at the National Dementia Awards.

Castle Douglas-based residential care home Carlingwark collected the ‘Best Dementia Continence Care Award’ at the ceremony. This award recognises a service that excels at promoting the good continence of its residents – in doing so, maintaining their health, wellbeing and dignity.

Community Integrated Care also had three other nominations at the event. Our EachStep model of dementia care featured in the ‘Outstanding Dementia Care Innovation’ category. Integrated dementia care service EachStep Blackley was also up for the ‘Best Dementia Continence Care Award’, whilst its Clinical Lead, Alan Howells, featured in the ‘Lifetime Achievement in Dementia Care’ category.

The National Dementia Awards are recognised as being one of the social care sector’s most prestigious accolades. They took place at Colwick Hall Hotel in Nottingham on 6^th November and were hosted by BBC Breakfast star Bill Turnbull.

Carlingwark House received their award in recognition of their dedicated efforts to promote the good continence care of residents. It has developed a specialist living environment and approach to support that assists good continence, and also collaborated closely with Dumfries and Galloway NHS Trust to maintain the health and wellbeing of residents.

This award is the latest in a series of recognition for the respected care home, after it won the “Recognising Continence Promotion’ and ‘Care Home Team’ awards at an event hosted by Dumfries and Galloway NHS Trust last year. It has also been shortlisted for the ‘Nutrition and Hydration Award’ at the upcoming regional finals at the Great British Care Awards, which take place at Newcastle on the 23^rd of November.
