Continence Care in Dementia Services – An Integrated Approach

Carlingwark House is a residential care home in Dumfries and Galloway that supports 30 older people, over 80% of whom live with dementia. The home has been recognised as Britain’s benchmark for exceptional continence care – winning, for two consecutive years, the National Dementia Awards’ Best Dementia Continence Care Award.

The home has received formal commendations from NHS Dumfries and Galloway; and co-created a resource tool about continence care with the Care Inspectorate, National Dementia Carers Action Network, and University of West Scotland, which is backed by the Scottish government and will be distributed across the nation in 2015.
