Learning Disability Super League returns to Magic Weekend!
We’re thrilled to announce that the Community Integrated Care Learning Disability Super League will be back at Magic Weekend when the event returns to St James’ Park, Newcastle on 3rd & 4th June.
The exhibition fixtures will give players the chance to enjoy the unforgettable experience of playing at Magic Weekend when they take to the pitch during half time of Game Two on both Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June.
After successful showcases during their debut at Anfield in 2019 and at St James’ Park in 2022, fans attending the festival of Rugby League will once again have the privilege of watching and supporting the Learning Disability Super League (LDSL) which is a truly inspirational version of the game.
The action doesn’t stop there either, with an LDSL Festival set to take place ahead of both exhibitions at Kingston Park Stadium.
The pioneering inclusive sports programme has more than 300 registered participants with learning disabilities or autism who now have the chance to play for the clubs that they love, through an accessible and adapted form of Rugby League.
The Community Integrated Care Learning Disability Super League has received numerous accolades – including being named as the ‘Best Innovation’ at the Great British Care Awards – and Community Integrated Care have recently extended their role as Official Social Care Partner of the Rugby Football League for a further five years until 2027.
John Hughes, Director of Partnerships and Communities at Community Integrated Care, says: “Playing at Magic Weekend has given players moments that they will never forget. This is so much more than being part of an amazing event – it’s a chance for the players to celebrate their talents, live their dreams, and be cheered on like heroes. The confidence and self-belief that they gain from this experience can last a lifetime.
The commitment from RL Commercial, the Super League clubs and the RFL in hosting this opportunity is an amazing example of the leadership that organisations can play in contributing to a society that is inclusive, supportive, and enabling for everyone. All of us at Community Integrated Care are excited for another amazing season of changing lives on and off the field through this ground-breaking partnership”.
