Learning Disability Super League shortlisted at Sports Business Awards 2024

The groundbreaking Community Integrated Care Learning Disability Super League (LDSL) has been recognised as one of the best leading community sport programmes, having been shortlisted for the prestigious Sports Business Awards 2024. This honour reflects its profound impact on promoting inclusivity in sports.

In partnership with the Rugby Football League, RL Commercial, and Sport England, our charity is a finalist in the ‘Best Sports Community Scheme’ category. The Sports Business Awards celebrate excellence behind the scenes in sports, recognising the initiatives that drive both community engagement and sporting achievement.

As the first initiative of its kind in world sport, the LDSL allows individuals with learning disabilities and autism to play a specially adapted version of Rugby League for the clubs they love, offering participants the unparalleled thrill of competing on some of the sport’s biggest stages.

Lewis Webster, Sports Inclusion Communications Manager at Community Integrated Care says, “What an exciting moment for the Learning Disability Super League and our partners across Rugby League, to be shortlisted for such a reputable award. This is a testament to the work of the people behind the scenes, and we would like to thank every club, Foundation, volunteer, family member and support networks who help to make this brilliant initiative possible.”

The groundbreaking programme was once again a part of Super League’s 2024 Magic Weekend, where over 400 players who access care and support, starred for their teams on the pitch across the weekend. The LDSL has been part of Magic Weekend since 2019, with players gracing iconic venues like Anfield, St James’s Park, and now Elland Road.

Winners of the Sports Business Awards 2024 will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Old Billingsgate in late November.
