MP Liz Twist Visits Half Fields Close

Earlier in March, colleagues at Community Integrated Care’s Half Fields Close service in Blaydon-on-Tyne were delighted to welcome MP, Liz Twist, for a visit.

Half Fields Close are a team of 20 Support Workers, enabling people with a range of care and support needs to live independently in their own homes. As part of the special visit, the former Shadow Minister received a tour of the service from people supported, gaining a glimpse into their lives and the fantastic work of our colleagues in supporting them to live their best lives possible.

During the visit, colleagues also took the opportunity to tell Liz about Community Integrated Care’s Unfair to Care campaign. With the fourth edition of Unfair to Care having recently launched, colleagues emphasised the need to close the pay gap between Support Workers and their peers in the NHS – a disparity which totals £7,120 per year, following figures featured in the latest Unfair to Care report.

Head of Operations, Jennifer Haynes, was proud to have attended the visit alongside our colleagues. She said, “We were thrilled to welcome Liz Twist, MP for Blaydon and Consett, to Half Fields Close earlier this month. It was fantastic to introduce her to the people we support and offer her a first-hand insight into the vital care and support that our colleagues provide – enabling and empowering the people we support to live fulfilled lives, every day.”

“We were especially pleased to have the chance to tell Liz more about Unfair to Care and the pay gap that exists between social care and NHS workers. It’s crucial that our MPs understand the importance of social care and how this pay difference affects their constituents, so we’d like to say a big thank you to Liz for visiting, finding out more about our team, and spending time with the people we support.”
