MP praises our teams during visit
Jonathan Ashworth, Labour MP for Leicester South and Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, last week visited one of our local care service to show his gratitude for the social care sector throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Gilmorton Flats is part of a group of services in Leicester rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission. Here we support people with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and autism to live independently in the community.
This visit coincided with International Day of Charity celebrating the achievements of the charity sector!
On 3rd September, Gilmorton Flats held a fantastic garden party for employees, people supported and their families, marking their achievements throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. From locking down in the service of the early stages of the pandemic to ensuring people at the service stayed connected with their loved ones – the team made many sacrifices to keep the people they support safe.
During the visit, Jonathan praised Community Integrated Care’s colleagues for their ongoing commitment to the social care sector. The Leicester South MP has been a supporter of Community Integrated Care for several years and has recently backed the charity’s Unfair To Care campaign – a landmark report that revealed that many people working in social care would receive substantially higher (up to 39% or £7000) earnings if they worked in other public funded sectors.
Jonathan Ashworth, Labour MP for Leicester South, says: “It was great being back at Gilmorton Flats. This is such an amazing project. I wanted to come along so I could personally thank the staff for everything they have done during the pandemic for the people they care for and support. The staff have been brilliant these past 18 months.”
Gillian Edwards, Service Leader at Community Integrated Care, says: “We’re so pleased that Jonathan was able to join us today for our Summer Celebration at Gilmorton Flats. He was full of praise for our incredible colleagues and their dedication to the people they support. The visit has gave a real boost to our team here in Leicester – it’s been a pleasure welcoming him to the service.”
