Support Worker in Young Thinker of the Year Final

Community Integrated Care is delighted to announce that one of our brightest stars, Support Worker Adam Lomas, has reached the finals of the UK Third Sector Young Thinker of the Year Competition.

Adam, 26, who works at Marston Garden in Liverpool, is one of only 16 people chosen to go through to the final stages of the competition, aimed at developing the skills of people in the early stages of their third sector careers.

Adam joined Community Integrated Care in January 2013 on a student placement as part of his Master’s Degree in Social Work at Liverpool John Moores University. After graduating, Adam joined Marston Gardens – a service supporting people with physical disabilities, learning difficulties and mental health concerns – full time.

The final of the competition will place at Lancaster University on 19^th-21^st September, where each delegate will present a 900-word argument on a topic of their choice, reflecting a subject of current interest or controversy. Drawing on both his academic and practical work experience, Adam’s chosen argument focuses on “the over-reliance on medication to treat those with enduring mental health problems”.

Adam says, “I am thrilled to have been chosen to advance to the final stage of the UK Young Thinker Competition. I am really passionate about ensuring that people with enduring mental health issues have access to a comprehensive treatment programme that right for them as an individual – respecting the underlying issues which give rise to their needs and realising that often, mental health issues can’t simply be cured with medication. I’m looking forward to exploring my thoughts further with the panel and hope that my argument is strong enough for me to be named as the winner! ”
