We respond to Get Britain Working green paper
Jim Kane, Community Integrated Care’s Chief Executive Officer, has responded to the Government’s Get Britain Working green paper, announced earlier this week. He said: “We welcome the government’s ambition to support more disabled people, including those with learning disabilities, to enter and remain in work. However, proposed cuts to benefits like Personal Independence Payment (PIP) could leave many people without the vital support they need and place even greater pressure on already stretched social care services.
Many people use PIP to help cover the costs of social care and essential daily support. The green paper states that the government plans to research the link between PIP and adult social care, and we would encourage this work to happen before any significant reforms are introduced in Autumn 2026.
Crucially, we call on the government to base its reforms on changes that ensure people have the financial support they need to live their best lives, whilst also recognising the positive contributions people with care and support needs make to our communities and economy.
We believe adult social care can be a key part of enabling more people to live fulfilled lives and access employment opportunities. Investment in social care will help improve people’s wellbeing, support independence, and ultimately contribute to the government’s goal of getting more people into work and supporting economic growth.
We look forward to working with government and our partners throughout the consultation period and sharing the voices and experiences of the people we support in the months ahead.”
Community Integrated Care believes that when we invest in social care, we invest in the future of our society, our economy and our NHS. Read our latest report, ‘The Caring Economy – Unfair To Care 2025’, to find out more: www.unfairtocare.co.uk
