We respond to this week’s unrest
Jim Kane, our Chief Executive Officer, has issued his response to the events of the past week, expressing his hope at the display of unity from our communities.
“In the past week, we’ve witnessed things we hope to never see in the communities we live and work in. Naturally, our priority has been to keep the people we support and our colleagues safe from harm or disruption throughout this time.
The social care sector is a rich, vibrant and diverse community, made up of millions of incredible people – of all races, ethnicities and religions – and it’s this strong sense of diversity that makes us so special, and our sector and society, is all the better for it.
As a charity built on the foundations of inclusion and community, we wholeheartedly condemn the shameful threats, discrimination and violence that we have seen, and our thoughts are with anyone who, right now, is living in fear as a result. We take an absolutely zero tolerance approach to any such behaviour and support the bringing to justice of those responsible.
We’ve been buoyed to see the many inspiring displays of unity within our communities over the past 48 hours, to stand up to racism and prejudice – showing the best of Britain.
We stand together with those calling for ongoing peace, and for hope, not hate.”
